July 24, 2013 - 09:25 By 윤민식
Samsung Electronics Co., the world's leading smartphone marker, was found to have one of the most favorable working conditions in South Korea and to have contributed the most to the local economy, a report showed Wednesday.

According to the report released by Chaebul.com, a business researcher, the tech giant saw its working environment index reach 66.3 points out of 100, marking the highest grade among 300 local companies tallied.

The index takes four criteria -- contributions to the economy, employment period, welfare expenditures and wages -- into consideration. A high number indicates a firm provides favorable working conditions to its employees.

Samsung Electronics posted 95 points in its contributions to the South Korean economy, 71 points in wages, 57 points in welfare and 42 points in the average employment period.

South Korea's No. 5 lender Korea Exchange Bank ranked second with its index reaching 63.4 points, boasting 92 points in wages and the employment period, respectively. Its contribution to the economy, however, came to 2 points.

Hyundai Motor Co., the country's top carmaker, saw its working environment index reach 63 points, boasting 95 points in wages, while posting 38 points in its contribution to the economy.

Top lender Kookmin Bank saw its index reach 62.5 points, trailed by steelmaker POSCO with 58.2 points and No. 3 lender Shinhan Bank with 56.8 points.

Of the top 100 firms on the list, 57 businesses were manufacturers, 21 firms belonged to the financial sector, and others included logistics firms, builders and mobile carriers, the report also showed. (Yonhap News)
