French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault plans to visit South Korea later this week for meetings with President Park Geun-hye and other top officials, the nation's embassy here said Monday.

During his trip to Seoul on Thursday, Ayrault "will be received by Ms. Park Geun-hye, President of the Republic of Korea, and will meet with Mr. Chung Hong-won, Prime Minister," it said in a press release.

The French prime minister will also deliver a speech at a business conference with the South Korean and French business communities, hosted by the French-Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) and the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI), during his one-day stay in Seoul, according to the embassy.

Ayrault will be accompanied by several ministers, parliamentarians, businessmen and journalists, it said.

Among them is Veterans Affairs Minister Kader Arif, who is scheduled to join a formal ceremony to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Korean War armistice. It will be held in Seoul on July 27.

On Friday, the minister will travel to Suwon, a city south of Seoul, along with four French veterans of the 1950-53 conflict, for an event to unveil the recently renovated French monument, the embassy said

"On July 28th, the Minister of Veterans Affairs will also travel to Busan and visit the 'French square' in the U.N. Cemetery," it said. (Yonhap News)
