Gov't probe team on Asiana crash returns

July 17, 2013 - 20:35 By 최희석

South Korea's government team sent to investigate the Asiana jet crash returned home on Wednesday and vowed continued efforts to reveal the cause of the deadly accident.

Six officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport have been in San Francisco since July 7 participating in a joint investigation with the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) on Asiana Flight 214. Three Chinese teens died and over 180 people were injured after the passenger jet crash landed at San Francisco International Airport on July 6.

"We can't talk at this point about any particular causes," Park Jeong-gwon, the team's chief, told reporters upon arrival. "We anticipate it will take one to two years to reach our final conclusions," he said, adding that South Korea will continue to work with the NTSB.

The government team is expected to conduct an intense scrutiny of the information gathered from the accident site and give its opinions to the NTSB. (Yonhap News)
