Thai cheers cause a stir

July 2, 2013 - 18:10 By Korea Herald
The Thai national bowlers drew spectators‘ attention at Anyang Hogye Gymnasium with their deafening cheers for their players during the men’s and women‘s singles competitions on Sunday and Monday.

“Basically the lyrics of our chant are: One, two, three, four strikes are not enough. We want 10,” said Angkana Netrviseth, the women’s champion of the 2013 Asian Bowling Tour in Macau.

Netrviseth, who is 23, has played bowling for 10 years. She was with the national youth team for two years before joining the national squad at 14.

“Our cheers surely give confidence to our players on the approach,” she said, adding that some of the Thai players had been training together for five or six years and shared a strong bond.

Thailand‘s Larp-Apharat Yannaphon won the bronze medal in the men’s singles. He and three others compete in the men’s doubles on Tuesday.
