Korea’s Chang Gyu-cheol took the gold medal in the men’s 100-meter butterfly at the Incheon Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games on Sunday.

Chang, who entered the finals in fifth place, finished the race in 51.56 seconds, slashing his qualifying time by more than 2 seconds.

“The time in the preliminaries was good, so I was worried about the evening race,” Chang said.

Regarding his time, Chang joked that he was not sure whether to be satisfied as he was unable to see the results due to bad eyesight.

As for the remainder of the swimming events, Chang said that he hoped for the Korean team to take home at least 10 gold medals.

Chang was followed by Indonesia’s Glenn Victor Sutanto, who had finished the preliminaries in first place. The bronze medal was taken by Hoang Quy Phuoc of Vietnam.

Hoang had entered the finals in third place behind China’s Xu Zhijie, who fell to fifth in the final race.

Sutano’s finishing time was 51.82 seconds, while Hoang completed the race in 52.68.
