U.N. GCF's board meeting opens in S.Korea

June 25, 2013 - 21:36 By 서지연

The Green Climate Fund (GCF), a United Nations environment body, opened a board meeting Tuesday to work out details of the fund's operations, fund officials said.

During the four-day meeting, co-hosted by the finance ministry and Incheon City, the board will pick the fund's secretary general and discuss details of the operation, they said.

South Korea signed a deal with the GCF board on June 10 to help the new U.N. fund establish its headquarters at the Songdo International Business District in Incheon, 40 kilometers west of Seoul.

In October last year, South Korea was selected to host the U.N. fund, designed to channel US$100 billion a year in aid to help developing countries cope with climate change.

The temporary headquarters of the fund will be relocated to Songdo in October from Bonn, Germany.(YONHAP)
