South Korean comedian Yoo Se-yoon’s drunk driving has brought public attention back to the issue of celebrities driving under the influence of alcohol.
Yoo turned himself in after driving about 30 kilometers around 4 a.m. Wednesday from Gangnam-gu, Seoul, to Ilsan, northwest of the capital. The comedian is charged with DUI and will have his license revoked, the police said.
Yoo’s DUI case is not the first celebrity incident this year.
On April 1, Lee Yi-kyung, an actor on cable television network tvN’s “Nine,” was caught by police behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
Two days before Lee’s charge, actor Choi Jong-hoon also came into media spotlight after being found guilty of DUI.
Last year as well, there were four incidents of publicized celebrity DUI cases. In January 2012, actor Chae Min-seo and comedian Kim Ki-wook were found guilty of DUI.
In July of the same year, popular Korean-Canadian singer Alex (Korean name Chu Hun-gon) and 2PM member Nichkhun shocked fans with the same charge.
