Ryu Hyun-jin ‘fortified’ in Dodgers’ win: MLB.com
South Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin collected his fifth win of the season on Wednesday, as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Milwaukee Brewers 9-2.
Ryu threw 7.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out four. His ERA dropped to 3.30.
The Major League homepage said that the Dodgers “fortified” Ryu in the win. Ryu has allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven of his 10 appearances.
Dodgers’ community website True Blue LA wrote that Ryu returned to his dependable self. It said the “only blip” in his pitching was a solo homer by Ryan Braun in the sixth inning.
The solid rookie season by the 26-year-old may be one of few consolation prizes for the Dodgers’ otherwise abysmal season.
At 19-26, the team is dead last in the National League West standings, a feat falling woefully short of expectations that accompanied the team’s gigantic payroll of over $200 million.
