Psy wins Billboard award for Top Streaming Song

Korean rapper and singer Psy won the Top Streaming Song Billboard Music Award in the video category with his international hit song “Gangnam Style” on Monday. He is the first Korean artist to ever win a Billboard award. The award is for the most watched music video of that year. Psy was nominated along with several other musicians including Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen, and fun., among others.

Billboard said they determined the nominees and winners based on key fan interactions over the last year including album and digital singles sales, radio airplay, touring, streaming and social media interactions through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, VEVO, Spotify and other popular websites for music.

Psy was nominated in six categories out of 45 of the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, including “Top New Artist,” “Top Streaming Artist,” “Top Rap Song,” “Top Dance,” “Top Streaming Song” (Video) and “Top Rap Artist.”

He also participated in the event as a presenter for the awards ceremony to introduce Chris Brown.
