South Korean President Park Geun-hye expressed shock and offered condolences Tuesday over the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon as she sent a message of sympathy and solidarity to U.S. President Barack Obama, the presidential office said.

Two bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, killing three people and wounding more than 140 others.

No one has yet to claim responsibility for the attacks.

"I cannot contain my shock at the news that a bombing incident involving the loss of human lives happened at the Boston Marathon," Park said in the Korean-language message. "It is very regrettable that this appalling tragedy has taken place."

Together with the people of South Korea, Park said she offers heartfelt condolences to Obama and the American people, and deeply mourns the loss of precious lives.

"We will be with the people of the United States amid this big tragedy," she said.

Park is scheduled to visit the United States for her first summit with Obama on May 7. (Yonhap News)
