Material firm eyes world with heat technology

April 7, 2013 - 19:34 By Korea Herald
A hidden champion is setting a model example in the local material industry, with its original technology in heat radiant material and patent-focused business strategies.

Green & Carbon Solutions, a local small-sized enterprise, currently possesses some 30 local and global patents in the manufacturing and processing of carbon-based thermal substances.

Its key technology involves graphene, a novel material which, with its light weight and high heat conductivity, is often used as heat control layers in electronic devices, such as mobile phones, tablet computers and televisions.

Major customers for the substance are Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Toshiba and Fujitsu.

G&CS also won two patent litigations last year against GrafTech International Holdings, a U.S. heat radiant solution provider and one of the leading players in the world market.

“Based on our research and development, as well as unrivalled technology in heat radiation, we are in fact vying with the world’s top enterprises,” said CEO Choi Suk-hong.

Last year, despite the ongoing economic slump, the company achieved a surplus, especially in exports, and is now maintaining a zero-debt status.

It recently started producing graphene coating material and coated graphite powder, both of which proved to have a higher heat conductivity than conventional industrial substances.
