Footballer Cha Du-ri is going through divorce procedures, according to legal industry sources Wednesday.

Ending a five-year marriage, the 33-year-old footballer filed for divorce mediation with the Seoul Family Court against his 34-year-old wife, Shin Hye-seong, on March 12, they said.

Meditation during divorce is a way of finding solutions to issues such as child custody and spousal support without formal court trials. When the agreement is not reached amicably, formal divorce trials can be opened.

Cha, the son of South Korean football legend Cha Bum-kun, tied the knot with his wife in 2009. The couple has one daughter and one son.

After spending 11 years overseas with seven German clubs and one Scottish team, the younger Cha joined FC Seoul in the domestic K League Classic last month. (Yonhap News)

차두리, 결혼 5년만에 이혼조정 신청

국가대표 출신 축구선수 차두리(33.FC서울)씨가 결혼 5년 만에 이혼 절차를 밟고 있다.

3일 법조계에 따르면 차씨는 지난달 12일 부인 신혜성(34)씨를 상대로 서울가정법원에 이혼조정 신청을 냈다.

이혼조정 신청은 정식 재판을 하지 않고 부부가 합의를 통해 이혼하기 위한  절차다. 조정을 통해 합의가 이뤄지지 않으면 정식 재판이 열릴 수도 있다.

아직 조정기일은 정해지지 않았다.

차씨는 지난 2008년 12월 신철호 임피리얼팰리스 호텔 회장의 장녀인 신씨와 결혼해 1남1녀를 두고 있다.

독일프로축구에서 10년 가까이 활동해온 차씨는 최근 유럽 생활을 청산하고  프로축구 FC서울에 입단했다. (연합뉴스)
