S-Oil, Korea’s third-largest refiner, held a charity event, “Sharing Ddeokguk,” at Gwangya Church in Yeongdeungpo, southern Seoul, Tuesday.
Some 100 employees, executives and volunteers, including S-Oil CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher, made Korean traditional rice cake soup, or ddeokguk, for 700 people, the company said.
The company extended its goodwill to senior citizens living alone in single-room housing, the disabled and the homeless in the area.
S-Oil also delivered New Year gift packages filled with rice cakes, beef, instant noodles and tangerines to 600 households near Yeongdeungpo Station.
The celebrity volunteer group “100-person Council for Good Society,” including TV celebrities Lee Hyo-jeong and Kim Jeong-nan, participated in the charity event.
“I hope that needy people living here feel S-Oil officers’ and employees’ warm love for them and spend a happy New Year’s Day feeling less lonely,” said S-Oil CEO Al-Mahasher.
S-Oil has made and offered ddeokguk to the homeless and senior citizens in Yeongdeungpo since 2007, and provided various volunteer services.
On Jan. 31, S-Oil donated 1,990 bags of rice, worth 100 million won, to help the underprivileged in Ulsan where its refinery is located.
