Chinatown in Singapore celebrates the Lunar New Year from the beginning of January to March 11. The streets of the city capture the eyes of global tourists with the sounds of traditional music, red lanterns and food sold at many street stalls.
One of the highlight of the New Year events is at the River Hongbao, which will feature lively street performances, lanterns and fireworks. Another popular event is Chingay Parade, scheduled to be held from Feb. 22-23 on the grounds of the Formula One Pit Building alongside the Marina waterfront. It will present a variety of performances, including the Chinese traditional lion and dragon dancing. This year’s parade will present large-scale dance acts with the theme of “Fire in Snow.”
Other events include the street bazaar in the streets of Chinatown with more than 550 stalls until Feb. 9; the countdown event to the New Year on New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street on Feb. 9; and the Festive Street Light Up on the streets of Eu Tong Sen, New Bridge Road, Garden Bridge and South Bridge Road until March 11.
