Japanese media expressed deep concern over Korea’s scientific satellite launch on Wednesday.

Major Japanese media reported the news on Thursday, arguing the event could antagonize North Korea.

Yomiuri Shimbun said, “North Korea will resist South Korea’s rocket launch. This will be used as an excuse for its third nuclear test in the future.”

NHK said, “South Korea is celebrating its first successful satellite launch with the assistance of Russia. Even so, there exists the possibility that North Korea could protest against the criticism of its rocket launch in December from the United Nations Security Council.”

North Korea fired off a rocket on Dec. 12. Though it has claimed that it is a satellite, it is regarded by international society as a test of a ballistic missile.

South Korea successfully launched a space rocket, KSLV-1, also known as Naro, for the first time from its territory on Wednesday.

일본, 나로호 발사성공에 "떨떠름"


일본의 일부 언론은 나로호 발사 성공에 북한이 반발할 가능성이 있다고 보도했다.

요미우리신문은 31일 “한국의 인공위성 발사 성공에 북한이 반발할 것으로 예상된다”면서 “북한이 세 번째의 핵실험을 위한 구실로 삼을 가능성이 있다”고 전했다.

이 신문은 “북한은 작년 12월의 장거리 탄도미사일 발사를 인공위성 발사라고 주장하고 있기 때문에 국제사회가 한국의 인공위성 발사를 인정할 경우 ‘이중기준’이라고 비판할 것”이라고 내다봤다.

신문은 “한국에서는 2차례의 발사 실패로 배수진을 친 이번 발사 성공에 환호하지만, 이는 북한을 자극할 가능성이 있다”고 우려했다.

NHK 방송도 “한국은 러시아의 도움을 받아 인공위성 발사에 처음 성공하면서 축하분위기가 확산하고 있지만, 북한은 작년 12월의 인공위성 발사가 유엔 안보리의 비난 결의를 받아 ‘취급이 불공평하다’고 주장하며 강하게 반발할 가능성이 있다”고 보도했다.

산케이신문은 “작년 12월 북한이 사실상의 장거리 탄도미사일 발사에 성공하면서 한국에서는 ‘북한에 뒤졌다’는 여론이 분출해 위성 발사 성공이 국가적인 비원이었다”고 전했다.

일본 언론은 한국의 인공위성 발사 성공을 비중 있게 다루지 않았으며 대부분 사실위주로 짤막하게 보도했다.

아사히신문은 국제면 2단, 마이니치신문과 니혼게이자이신문은 각각 국제면 1단, 산케이신문과 도쿄신문은 각각 국제면 3단과 2단으로 취급했다. 요미우리신문은 2면 박스기사로 처리했다. (연합)
