A mass blind date which was scheduled to be held in a public park in Seoul on Christmas Eve may be called off, after the park administrator decided not to allow the event.

“The organizers said at first that the event would draw just a small number of people, but it is now expected to draw too many,” said an official at Yeouido Park, central Seoul. “The park is place for citizens, not for the promotion of private firms.”

First suggested by an SNS user, the event has attracted around 40,000 singles and scores of corporate sponsors.

Similar gatherings are planned in major cities including Busan, Daejeon and Gwangju.

“Yeouido Park has notified the organizer that the event cannot be held. The decision will not be changed,” the official said.

솔로대첩, "좋다 말았네..."

오는 24일 서울 여의도공원에서 열릴 예정이던 대규모 미팅 행사 '솔로 대첩'이 무산될 위기에 놓였다.

여의도공원은 솔로 대첩 행사 개최를 허가하지 않았다고 13일 밝혔다.

공원 관계자는 "처음에 주최 측이 참가 인원이 얼마 안 되는 것처럼 말했는데 판이 점점 커졌다"며 "이 곳은 시민을 위한 공간으로 과도한 기업 후원이나 홍보성 행사는 못하도록 돼 있다"고 설명했다.

이어 "주최 측에 여러 번 (불허 방침을) 이야기했다"며 "이 방침은 변경되지 않을 것"이라고 전했다.

이에 대해 누리꾼들은 제안자의 페이스북 계정에 '장소를 변경해야 하는 것 아닌가?' '며칠 안 남았는데 큰일'이라는 댓글을 남기는 등 우려 섞인 반응을 보이고 있다.

한 누리꾼의 제안으로 추진된 이 행사는 온라인에서 큰 호응을 얻어 대전, 광주, 부산 등 다른 지역에서도 열릴 예정이며 지금까지 4만1천여명이 제안자의 페이스북 계정에 참가 의사를 밝혔다.
