Golden Glove baseball awards may be canceled

Dec. 6, 2012 - 19:51 By Korea Herald
The country’s top professional league will cancel an upcoming annual baseball awards ceremony if players carry out their threat to boycott the ceremony, a league official said.

The Korea Professional Baseball Players Association, which represents players of the Korea Baseball Organization, has threatened to withhold its member players from the Golden Glove Awards set for next Tuesday, unless the KBO convenes a board meeting before the ceremony to discuss the addition of a 10th club.

Without players, there will be no celebration at all, the league official said.

“Players should take the center stage at the Golden Glove,” the official said. “If they refuse to come, then there’s no reason to hold the event.”

The KPBPA, which isn’t a union, has also threatened that its members will boycott the World Baseball Classic next March. The KBO had eight clubs in 2012 and the expansion NC Dinos will join them next year after spending this past season in the minors. (Yonhap News)
