Buses back on roads after hour-long strike

Nov. 22, 2012 - 08:52 By 윤민식

Bus operators nationwide restarted operations after a strike that lasted around an hour on Thursday morning, causing minor inconvenience to commuters.

The union of bus operators warned, however, of an indefinite strike if the National Assembly passes a revised bill that acknowledges taxis as public transport at the plenary session scheduled on Friday and Saturday.

“The bus operators restarted operation from 6:30 a.m. on Thursday since we cannot ignore the massive inconvenience to the citizens,” said the bus union through a statement.

They made the decision upon requests of the government and the prime minister’s office.

The prime minister’s office also asked the National Assembly to withhold submitting the revised bill to the plenary session for deliberation.

The Ministry of Land, Transport, and Maritime Affairs says it will still maintain an emergency operations center to prepare for the possible strike.
