(Yonhap) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who has refrained from public outings this month, made his first public appearance in 15 days, reports said Monday, dissipating speculations over possible problems in the new leadership.

The North's Korean Central Broadcasting Station and Radio Pyongyang reported that Kim attended the unveiling ceremony of statues of late leaders Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il that was held to celebrate Kim Il-sung Military University's 60th anniversary.

The public appearance, in which Kim gave a speech, is the new leader's first public outing in 15 days since Oct. 14, when he participated in a ceremony to mark the 65th anniversary of two revolutionary schools -- Mangyongdae Revolutionary School and Kang Pan-sok Revolutionary School.

The reports come amid speculations linking Kim's disappearance with possible problems in the new leadership. The young leader took over the communist country in December following the death of his father Kim Jong-il.

The outing was Kim's seventh so far this month. Data by Seoul's Unification Ministry released earlier in the day showed Kim was spotted on 11 outings last month, and 16 each in July and August.

Kim was seen in public an average of 13.7 times from the January-September period, according to the data.

In a series of unusual moves for a leader of the isolated nation, the young leader attended a concert featuring Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters and went out in public with his wife Ri Sol-ju, in what experts say is an attempt to promote his image as a down-to-earth leader familiar with the people.
