Actress Lee Yoon-mi participated in a charity bazaar on Thursday to help raise money for medical treatment of children awaiting adoption. The “Deep Autumn Big Love” charity fundraiser, held in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul, was organized by the Social Welfare Society, an adoption organization specializing in helping single mothers and their children’s adoptions.
The 31-year-old actress first came to public by receiving the best talent award from Super Elite Model Competition in 1998 and debuted in 2003 as a member of a project group TheS. In 2006, Lee married singer and producer Joo Young-hoon and has one daughter. Lee, aside from her title as a president of an online shopping mall, Petit Lucy, is known for actively participating in charity events for infants and young children.
Government financial support for orphanages and adoption centers merely covers children’s basic living costs, according to the Social Welfare Society. No extra assistance is provided for sick children and the organization last year spent 30 million won on hospital treatment for children in its charge.
The funds raised through the bazaar will be used to provide medical assistance to children awaiting adoption and to build facilities to provide children with more accessible treatment.
The event was sponsored by Petit Lucy and Rainbow. For more information on Social Welfare Society, call (02) 567-8814.
