Rush, Deep Purple, Public Enemy and N.W.A. are among the group of first-time nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

They join returnees Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Randy Newman, Donna Summer and Kraftwerk among the 15 artists vying for entry.

Even in the iPod age, the list of nominees up for induction in 2013 is as eclectic as they come. Nominees differ wildly in sound, origin and influence, ranging from the enduring prog rock of Canadian trio Rush and Procul Harum to German proto-electronica act Kraftwerk, the disco of Chic and Summer to the New Orleans funk of The Meters and the blues of Albert King and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

Motown also is represented by first-ballot entries The Mavelettes.

Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, acknowledged the extreme variety of this year‘s nominee class in a Thursday news release.

“The definition of ‘rock and roll’ means different things to different people, but as broad as the classifications may be, they all share a common love of the music,” Peresman said. “This year we again proudly put forth a fantastic array of groups and artists that span the entire genre that is ‘rock and roll.’”

A group of 600 artists, music historians and members of the industry will choose 2013’s inductees. They will be honored April 18 in Los Angeles.

It‘s the sixth time on the ballot for Summer, but the first since her death in May at age 63. Chic is on the ballot for the seventh time since 2003. (AP)

‘록 명예의 전당’ 후보공개, 점입가경!


러시, 딥퍼플, 퍼블릭에너미, N.W.A.가 로큰롤 명예의 전당(Rock and Roll Hall of Fame)의 후보자 명단에 처음으로 이름을 올렸다.

이로서 이들은 하트, 조안제트와 블랙허츠, 랜디 뉴먼, 도나 썸머, 크라프트베르크와 더불어 2013년 로큰롤 명예의 전당에 입성하기 위해 열 다섯 아티스트들과 경쟁하게 된다.

입성을 위해 경쟁하게 될 이번 후보자들의 명단은 현재의 젊은 세대들에게도 다소 다채롭게 다가온다. 이번 후보들은 구현하는 사운드, 영향 받은 아티스트와 장르 등에서 큰 차이를 보이고 있다. 프로그레시브 록, 일렉트로니카, 디스코, 펑크, 블루스, 그리고 모타운 사운드에 이르기 까지 다양한 장르의 아티스트들이 포진하고 있는 것.

로큰롤 명예의 전당 재단의 회장 조엘 페레즈만(Joel Peresman)도 지난 목요일 언론과의 인터뷰에서 “사람들마다 로큰롤의 정의를 다르게 하지만 모두들 음악을 사랑한다는 사실은 똑같다”고 말하며 올해 후보자들의 음악적 성향이 매우 다양함을 인정했다.

음악 아티스트, 음악 역사가, 업계 관계자 등으로 구성된 600인의 심사위원단이 2013년 명예의 전당 명단을 결정하게 된다. 최종 결정은 내년 4월 18일 로스앤젤레스에서 발표된다. (코리아헤럴드)
