Arnold Schwarzenegger says he still hopes to salvage his marriage despite admitting multiple affairs, including one in which fathered a child with the family housekeeper.

And, in a tell-all memoir published Monday, he insists he is “still in love” with Maria Shriver, his wife of 25 years who filed for divorce after he admitted he was the child‘s father.

The Hollywood star and former California governor said the fling with the housekeeper -- which produced a baby boy at almost the same time as his fourth child with Shriver -- was the “stupidest” thing he had done.

“The divorce is going forward, but I still have the hope that Maria and I can come back together as husband and wife and as a family with our children,” he said in his newly-published memoirs, “Total Recall.”

He also admitted he had a habit of keeping secrets, including not telling Shriver that he was going to run for governor until days before he announced it, and trying to conceal having heart surgery from her.

Shriver filed for divorce in July last year citing “irreconcilable differences” with her husband, whom she met in 1977 and married in 1986, following him into the California governor’s mansion in 2003. (AFP)

‘불륜남’ 슈워제네거, “여보 미안해”


영화배우이자 미국 캘리포니아 주 전 주지사인 아놀드 슈워제네거가 수 차례의 불륜설에도 불구하고 아직 가정을 살리고 싶다는 희망을 드러냈다.

지난 월요일 출간된 회고록에서 슈워제네거는 지난 25년간 자신의 아내였던 마리아 슈라이버를 ‘아직 사랑한다’고 밝혔다. 마리아 슈라이버는 남편 슈워제네거가 ‘가정부와의 불륜관계에서 아이까지 있었다’는 사실을 인정한 이후 이혼 소송을 청구했다.

슈워제네거는 본처인 슈라이버와의 사이에서 자신의 넷째 아이를 가질 즈음과 거의 동시에 저지른 가정부와의 불륜 행각이 자신이 평생 한 행동 가운데 가장 어리석은 짓이었다고 시인했다.

그는 현재 이혼소송이 진행 중이지만 여전히 아내와 화해해 가정으로 돌아갈 수 있다는 희망을 갖고 있다고 회고록 ‘토탈리콜(Total Recall)’에서 밝혔다.

슈워제네거는 또한 자신에게 비밀을 아무에게도 말하지 않는 버릇이 있다고도 밝혔다. 그는 지난 주지사 출마 당시 이를 대중에 공개하기 불과 며칠 전 까지도 아내에게 말하지 않았었고, 심장병으로 수술대에 오른 사실 또한 아내에게 숨기려 했었다고 말했다.

한편 슈라이버는 작년 7월 남편과 ‘용납할 수 없는 차이가 있다’는 이유로 이혼 소송을 청구했다. 두 사람은 지난 1977년 처음 만나 1986년 결혼해 지금까지 결혼생활을 이어오고 있다. (코리아헤럴드)
