A YouTube video uploaded by Japanese people insulting the South Korean national flag Taegeukgi has triggered furious responses here in Seoul.

In the video, a group of Japanese people place the maliciously depicted Taegeukgi on the floor and take turns to trample on it. According to Yonhap News, the people in the video are far-right activists demanding that Japan sever diplomatic ties with Korea.

The video is entitled “mat of cockroaches around the old Pepsi logo,” referencing the red and blue "taegeuk" mark in the center of Taegeukgi as the logo of beverage company Pepsi.

The flag in the video also has cockroaches painted around taegeuk, whereas the original Taegeukgi is marked with "gwae" that signify the four seasons, among other things.

Many Korean netizens expressed rage upon seeing the video, and said the Korean government should appeal to Japan.

Seo Kyoung-duk, Korea PR expert and professor at Sungshin Women’s University, called the far-rights in the ideo “pathetic and pitiful.”

“A large-scale advertisement will be made on October to baffle them. We (Koreans) will deal with the matter wisely,” Seo said via his Twitter feed.

Seo is planning to launch a worldwide advertising campaign which will address issues including so-called comfort women and Korea’s sovereignty claims to Dokdo. The term "comfort women" refers to female sex slaves under the Japanese military during World War II.

일본인, 태극기 밟고 찢고 불태우기까지!

인터넷에 일본인들이 태극기를 모독하는 동영상 이 연달아 올라와 충격을 주고 있다.

‘펩시 바퀴벌레 매트’라는 제목으로 유튜브에 올라온 영상에는 사괘에 바퀴벌레 모양을 그려넣은 태극기를 길바닥에 놓고 여러 사람이 번갈아가며 밟는 모습이 담겨 있다.

이 영상은 지난 7월말 일본의 한 극우단체가 한국과의 국교단절을 주장하며 시위를 하던 중 벌인 퍼포먼스를 촬영한 것으로 전해졌다.

유튜브에는 철모에 군복을 입은 남성이 태극기 모양을 그린 천을 밟다가 찢는 동영상과 복면을 쓴 남자가 ‘멸한(滅韓)’이라고 적은 태극기를 벽에 걸어놓고 발로 차다 불태우는 동영상도 올라와 있다.

이와 관련, 트위터에는 “그저 헛웃음만…당국은 강하게 어필해 주세요. 부탁합니다(@xonjang)” “왜국 우익의 태극기 모독. 분노를 금치 않을 수 없다(@Akado202)” 등 누리꾼의 비난이 쏟아지고 있다.

한국 홍보 전문가인 서경덕 성신여대 교양교육원 교수는 “일본 극우파들 참 가지가지 하네요! 우리 태극기를 가지고 바퀴벌레를 만들어 짓밟다니~ 정말 한심하고 불쌍하기까지 합니다! 10월 초 이들이 꼼짝 못할 대형광고가 만들어집니다. 우린 현명하게~^^(@SeoKyoungduk)”라는 글을 올리기도 했다.
