Former NFL football star Hines Ward has been named as the 2012 Asian-American leader at the National Association of Asian American Professionals’ meeting on Sunday, the organizer said.
Founded in 1982, the NAAAP is a largest Asian-American organization based in New York. The non-profit organization annually recognizes Asian leaders who have overcome obstacles to make contributions in the United States and Canada.

The Korean-born football player received the NAAAP 100 award at the annual convention in New York.
The other 2012 NAAAP 100 award recipients included Ike Song, vice president of Situation Awareness Systems of Northrop Grumman, Doris Ching, vice president of Student Affairs at University of Hawaii, Richard Lui from NBC News and Vivienne Poy, a senator in Canada.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver was an icon of the team for 14 seasons before retiring from the NFL earlier this year. He is the eighth player in NFL history to reach 1,000 career receptions. Ward also won two Super Bowl Champion titles with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006 and 2009.
