Indie bands rock festival to be held in Seoul’s Nanji Hangang Park

Indie music fans can look forward to performances by some of the best known indie musicians at “2012 Korea Live Music Festival” to be held in Seoul Nanji Hangang Park’s Youth Square from Sept. 1-2.

Subtitled “LIVE DAY,” the concert will feature performances by some 70 musicians representing various genres including pop, funk, rock, metal and hip-hop.

Now in its seventh year, the festival began in an alley beside a parking lot in Hongik University in 2005 under the title, “Indie Live Music Festival.” The concert became an annual event through the support of small scale live clubs in the area of Sinchon and Hongik University. With KBS2’s audition program “TOP Band” drawing public attention, people’s perception of indie musicians has changed, resulting in greater popularity of the indie music festival. In fact, 3,000 early-bird tickets were sold out within the first five minutes of ticket opening.

The line-up for the two-day festival includes the participants of “TOP Band” season 1 and 2, Gate Flowers, nu metal band Pia, Daybreak, The Koxx, Prana, Ynot as well as the pioneer of local indie music, punk band Crying Nut and Korea’s best-known Ska band, Kingston Rudieska. England’s grind-core metal band Napalm Death will be performing as well.

Prominent hip-hop artists Dynamic Duo and Rhythm Power will also be on stage. Lexy who will soon make a comeback after a four-year hiatus is also performing. Also, Kim Ji-soo of Superstar K3 will be performing on the main stage.

Tickets are priced at 33,000 won for a one day pass and 55,000 won for a two-day pass. Tickets can be purchased through Interpark, YES24, Auction, ouiTicket and 1300K. For more information, call (02)332-5150, (02)718-5152 or visit the website at www.livemusic.or.kr.
