Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton broke his nose in two places while running drills with the Phoenix Mercury WNBA team.

Stanton went up for a rebound against Nakia Sanford while running drills with the team Monday and took an elbow to the nose, breaking it in two places, TMZ reported Thursday.

The mayor was treated at a local hospital and released.

"Injuries are just part of the game -- they're battle wounds," Stanton said in a statement.

Mercury Coach Cory Gaines described the incident as "hilarious."

"You can't script it any better," he said.

미국의 한 시장이 농구팀과 같이 훈련을 하다가 코가 부러지는 사고가 일어났다.

미국 피닉스 시의 그렉 스탠튼 시장은 월요일 미국 여자 프로 농구팀 피닉스 머큐리 선수들과 함께 훈련을 하다 코를 다쳤다.

스탠튼 시장이 리바운드를 하기 위해 뛰어오르는 순간 다른 선수의 팔꿈치에 코를 맞아 코뼈가 부러졌다고 현지 언론이 전했다. 사고 후 시장은 지역 병원에서 치료를 받고 퇴원한 것으로 알려졌다. 

스탠튼 시장은 “부상도 경기의 일부”라며 “이것은 전투의 상처일 뿐”이라고 성명서를 통해 말했다.

피닉스 머큐리의 감독 코리 케인스 또한 재미있는 해프닝이었다고 밝혔다.
