A Chinese woman who suffered from headaches on the left side of her head was told by doctor that a spider was in her ear canal.

Doctors at the Changsha Central Hospital in Hunan Doctors reportedly used a saline solution to flush out the spider in order to avoid having the spider burrow deeper inside the canal or bite her.

They believe the spider entered the woman's home while the home was undergoing renovations, and crawled into her ear while she was sleeping.

University of Florida entomology professor Philip Koehler told the Huffington Post insects crawling into human ears was not just an urban myth and they occasionally did so for shelter.

"The insects are probably entering the canal as harborage, for heat, and/or for moisture," he said.

두통으로 병원 갔더니 귓속에 '거미'가

중국 한 병원의 의료진이 편두통을 호소한 여성 환자의 귀에서 거미 한 마리를 발견해 화제다.

창샤 중앙 병원의 의사들은 왼쪽 머리에 두통을 호소한 화자의 귓 속에서 거미를 발견한 후,  환자의 이도(ear canal)로 더 깊숙이 침투하거나 무는 현상을 막고자 식염수를 사용해 거미를 빼냈다.

이 거미는 당시 수리 중이던 환자의 집안에 들어왔다가 환자가 잠든 사이에 귓속으로 기어 들어간 것으로 보인다.

미국 플로리다 대학의 곤충학 교수 필립 코힐러(Philip Koehler)는 한 신문사와의 인터뷰에서 곤충이 사람의 귓속에 들어가는 일은 괴담이 아니며, 곤충들은 종종 피난처를 찾아 그와 같은 행동을 보인다고 말했다.
