LG Electronics sets sales record for Optimus LTE2 smartphone

Aug. 2, 2012 - 20:38 By Korea Herald
LG Electronics has posted a new sales record for its Optimus LTE2 smartphone, making it the company’s fastest selling mobile phone to date.

The Korean electronics giant achieved a benchmark setting record of 500,000 units sold in just 70 days, according to a Yonhap News report on Thursday.

The product was launched this May and is the latest in the company’s flagship smartphone Optimus LTE line. The previous version, “Optimus LTE,” took more than 80 days to achieve this figure, Yonhap reported.

LG Electronics official Kim San confirmed the report on Thursday, and said that the product’s design and updated features may have contributed to strong sales.

Kim said that the company released a value pack upgrade on July 31, which added and strengthened existing applications.

Additions include a new voice recognition system called “Q Voice,” he said.

Similar to Apple’s “Siri,” application, Optimus LTE2 users can issue voice commands through the program, according to Kim.

The company also updated its “Quick Memo” system, which allows consumers to write directly on the phone’s screen. They can then save the file and also have the option of sharing it with others as well.

Meanwhile, the light-weight Optimus LTE2 features a long battery life, fast computing speeds, and a memory storage capacity of 2GB, according to the company’s website.

Other notable features include wireless charging and a top-of-the line camera app, which boasts capabilities such as “time machine,” according to the company. It takes several pictures in quick succession, giving users the option of picking what they like best.

The product is available in two colors, black and white. The white version was released in June, and its popularity among women may have helped boost sales, according to LG Electronics.
