Korail says goodbye to switchback train

June 22, 2012 - 19:54 By Korea Herald
Korea Railroad Corporation is holding a farewell event to mark the demise of the only switchback train in the country between Heungjeon Station and Nahanjeong Station in Samcheok, Gangwon Province, through June 26.

The train, which climbs a steep mountain on a zigzag track, had been in operation in the mountainous region between Taebaek and Samcheok in Gangwon Province for 49 years.

The train was made obsolete when a new tunnel opened on the Yeongdong Line.

The farewell event offers participants a last chance to ride the train.
