한 남성 모델이 사진 촬영 중에 부적절한 성적 행위를 하도록 강요당했다는 이유로 미국 유명 캐주얼 SPA 브랜드 아베크롬비앤피치(Abercrombie & Fitch)를 상대로 소송을 걸었다고 영국 언론이 지난 일요일 보도했다.

벤자민 바우어스(Benjamine Bowers)는 아베크롬비에서 근무할 당시 캐스팅 디렉터에 의해 모델 에이전트인 브라이언 힐번(Brian Hilburn)에게 소개를 받아 미시시피 주 잭슨에서 사진 촬영을 하게 되었다고 말했다.

소송 내용에 따르면, 사진 촬영 중에 힐번은 “모델 포트폴리오를 위해서는 편안한 이미지가 필요하다”고 말하면서 촬영장에서 옷을 벗고 성적인 행위를 통해 긴장을 풀 것을 요구했다.

이에 바우어스가 응하자 힐번 스스로도 하반신 노출을 하며 성적인 대화를 이어갔다고 바우어스가 주장했다.

그는 “사진 촬영은 애초에 자신의 모델 활동을 위한 것이 아니었다”고 말하면서 “이용당한 기분”이라고 말했다.

아베크롬비는 과거 종교•인종차별 혐의, 그리고 강제로 직원들에게 자사 제품을 구매•착용하게 만든 혐의 등으로 화제가 된 바 있다.

Model files lawsuit against Abercrombie & Fitch

A former employee of Abercrombie & Fitch has filed a lawsuit claiming he was forced to conduct sexual acts at a photo shoot in order to look more “relaxed.”

Benjamine Bowers claims that the casting director of the retailer sent him to a modeling agent, Brian Hilburn, who made him take off his clothes and pleasure himself in front of the camera.

Bowers is filing the suit for $1 million, British media reported Sunday.

At the photo shoot, which allegedly took place June 17, 2011, Hilburn persuaded him into the act, saying relaxed features were needed for a modeling portfolio.

The lawsuit alleges that Hilburn went on to make suggestive comments afterwards, exposing his own private parts.

Bowers “feels used and believes the photos were never intended to help his career,” according to TMZ.

Abercrombie has been accused in the past of racial and religious discrimination against its employees and of forcing employees to use its products.
