How to get to the Expo

May 13, 2012 - 19:48 By Chung Joo-won
The Yeosu Expo site is located inside Yeosu City, a southern coastal port in South Jeolla Province, the nation’s southwestern region.

For visitors from Seoul and the surrounding Gyeonggi Province, the most convenient way to get to the venue is to take the KTX, or Korean Train Express. Yeosu Expo Station connects to Gate 3 of the Expo directly, minimizing the walking distance for visitors.

KTX passengers can also get 30 percent off their train fare if they show their Expo tickets to the ticketing office. It takes three hours and two minutes from Yongsan Station in central Seoul to Yeosu Expo Station by KTX. Slower trains such as the Mugunghwa Train and Saemaeul Train take four hours, 40 minutes and five hours, 10 minutes, respectively.

The KTX runs eight times daily during the week and 10 times a day on the weekend. The Saemaeul Train runs two times and the Mugunghwa Train, 13 times.

An express bus departing from Seoul is a cheaper option, with the price around 30,000 won. Unless caught in rush hour, it takes about four hours from Seoul to Yeosu by express bus and about two and a half hours from Busan to Yeosu.

Visitors who drive to Yeosu have to park their cars at one of the five parking plazas and take a free shuttle bus to the Expo site.

The parking plazas can accommodate about 40,000 cars a day. The free shuttle bus comes every 13-30 minutes, and it takes about 30 minutes at most to get to the Expo site.
