May 9, 2012 - 18:34 By Korea Herald
Ewha Womans University has appointed leading violinist Chung Kyung-wha as a distinguished professor for its music school.

The school said on Tuesday that her experience and knowledge will help foster young talented musicians.

“I feel especially touched and grateful to be able to teach at my mother’s school,” Chung, 65, said.

Her mother, Lee Won-sook, who recognized her musical talent and raised her as one of the greatest violinists, studied at the college of music.

Chung held a concert in December at the school along with her brother, conductor Myung-whun and sister, cellist Myung-wha, to commemorate her late mother, who died in May 2011.

She has worked with most of the world’s best orchestras including Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra and Philadelphia Orchestra.

She returned to stage last year after a five-year break due to a finger injury. Most recently she led the Great Mountains Music Festival in Gangwon Province with her sister.

Chung will perform Bach’s works on solo violin on Thursday at Ewha Womans University to mark her appointment, the school said.
