South Korea's current account surplus widened sharply in March from the previous month, backed by strong auto and petrochmical exports, the central bank said Friday.

   The current account surplus reached $3.04 billion last month, up from $560 million in the black tallied in the previous month, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK). The figure is larger than the $1.33 billion surplus tallied a year earlier.

   Asia's fourth-largest economy logged a surplus of $3 billion in goods trade, fueled by overseas demand for locally made products.

This is much higher than the $1.31 billion surplus reported in February and $2.75 billion reached in March 2011.

   The country's service sector account was in the black by $700 million last month from a deficit of $1.22 billion in the previous month.

   The capital and financial account, covering cross-border investments, posted a net outflow of $1.63 billion in March. This is greater than the outflow of $960 million in the previous month.

   For the first quarter, the country's current account surplus reached $2.63 billion, slightly larger than $2.61 billion posted in the first three months of last year, the BOK said.

3월 경상수지 흑자폭 증가…수출 덕분

지난달 경상수지가 흑자폭을 대폭 키웠다.

    한국은행은 지난 2월 5억6천만 달러 흑자였던 경상수지가 3월 30억4천만 달러 흑자를 기록했다고 27일 밝혔다. 지난해 3월에는 13억3천만 달러 흑자였다.

    상품수지 흑자는 2월 13억1천만 달러에서 지난달 30억 달러로 급증했다. 승용차 , 석유제품 등의 수출이 전월보다 호조를 보인 덕분이다.

    수출은 474억2천만 달러로 지난 2월 458억6천만 달러보다 늘어났다. 전년 동기 기준으로는 승용차의 수출증가세가 이어졌으나 선박, 전기ㆍ전자제품의 수출이 감소 로 전환됐다.

    특히 미국, 중동에 대한 수출은 증가세를 유지했지만 EU, 중국 등은 감소세를 보였다.

    수입은 444억2천만 달러로 전달 445억5천만 달러보다 다소 줄었다. 지난해 같은 달과 비교했을 땐 소비재의 수입 증가세가 둔화하고 원유, 가스 등 원자재와 자본재 는 감소했다. 

    서비스수지는 여행수지와 지적재산권 사용료가 전달보다 개선되며 7억 달러  흑 자로 전환됐다.

    본원소득수지 전월의 6억1천만 달러 흑자에서 3억2천만 달러 적자로 바뀌었다.

지난해 12월 결산법인의 대외배당 지급이 늘어난 탓이다. 이전소득수지 적자는 1억5 천만 달러에서 3억4천만 달러로 확대됐다.

    금융계정은 16억3천만 달러 유출로 전달보다 유출이 더 늘어났다.

    직접투자는 외국인의 순유입 전환으로 유출규모가 35억7천만 달러에서  16억2천 만 달러로 축소됐다.

    증권투자는 외국인의 주식투자의 큰 폭 둔화로 61억2천만 달러 유입 규모가  13 억 달러로 대폭 줄어들었다. 파생금융상품은 9억2천만 달러 유입됐다.

    기타 투자는 15억3천만 달러 유출에서 4억9천만 달러 유출로 축소됐다.  준비자 산은 17억4천만 달러 증가했다. 자본수지는 1억 달러 유입을 나타냈다.

    올해 1분기 경상수지 흑자는 26억3천만 달러로 나타났다. 지난해 1분기 26억1천 만 달러와 비슷한 수준이다. 상품수지가 26억9천만 달러 흑자를 기록했고 서비스 수 지는 6억5천만 달러 적자였다. 금융계정의 유출 규모는 12억7천만 달러로 전년 동기 25억7천만 달러보다 줄었다.
