SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won has sent words of encouragement to the group’s subsidiaries ― SK Telecom, SK Planet and SK Hynix.

In a letter posted on SK Telecom’s bulletin this week Chey told his executives and employees that he is proud of the No. 1 mobile operator’s successes, such as the spin-off of the telecom’s mobile platform unit ― SK Planet ― and the takeover of Hynix Semiconductor, Korea’s second-largest chip maker.

He then urged SK Planet not to be afraid of challenging itself and creating new things in global markets, citing Google and Apple as a prime example.

“There was no Google before Google, and no Apple before Apple,” he wrote. “SK Planet should achieve the same.”

Chey continued that he is optimistic that SK Telecom and SK Hynix will leap to an advanced level through synergy.

He said he was assured that SK Telecom, together with SK Planet and SK Hynix, can create a legend.
