Police detained nine teenagers Wednesday for killing a 17-year-old girl and burying the body in a park.

Police in Ilsan, on the outskirts of Seoul, said the runaway boys and girls beat the victim with blunt weapons on April 5 for badmouthing them. Two of them, however, felt guilty and later turned themselves in.

Police will seek arrest warrants for the five suspects who are believed to have led in committing the crime.

10대 청소년 9명이 평소 알고 지내던 또래 여자 친구가 험담하고 다닌다는 이유로 둔기로 마구 때려 숨지게 한 뒤 암매장했다가 경찰에 붙잡혔다.

경기도 일산경찰서는 18일 폭행치사 등의 혐의로 구모(17)군 등 10대 9명을 긴급체포해 조사 중이라고 밝혔다.

이들은 지난 5일 오후 3시께 경기도 고양시 덕양구 행신동의 한 집에서 A(18)양 을 둔기로 마구 때려 숨지게 한 뒤 이튿날 새벽 2시께 인근 공원에 암매장한 혐의를 받고 있다.

구군 등은 경찰 조사에서 "A양이 험담을 하고 다니고 말을 잘 듣지 않아 혼내려고 했다"고 진술했다.

경찰은 이들 중 범행 가담 정도가 큰 5명에 대해 구속영장을 신청할 방침이다. (연합뉴스)
