Mexico to host 2013 World Taekwondo Championships

Mexico will host the 2013 World Taekwondo Championships, the World Taekwondo Federation announced following its council meeting in Egypt on Monday.

The WTF members voted in favor of the Mexican city of Puebla over Split, Croatia for the biennial championships scheduled for June 17-23 in 2013.

Senegal earned the right to host the 2013 WTF World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships and Taiwan won the right to host the World Junior Taekwondo Championships in New Taipei City in 2014, the WTF said.

The WTF council also agreed to pass bylaws on betting and anti-corruption, which are in line with the guideline of the International Olympic Committee.

The bylaws will to be to safeguard the integrity of the sport by prohibiting any conduct that may “impact improperly” competitions, the WTF said.

Meanwhile, the council on Monday also unanimously approved Seychelles, an island country located in the Indian Ocean, as its 201st member country.
