International lawyers organization opens its Asia office in Seoul

The world’s leading organization of international lawyers is opening its Asia office in Seoul, city officials said Wednesday.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the International Bar Association, an organization of legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies, held an opening ceremony in Seoul on Wednesday.

IBA president Akira Kawamura, Seoul City Mayor Park Won-soon and Justice Minister Kwon Jae-jin were among the dignitaries attending the event.

The association boasts more than 45,000 lawyers and 200 bar associations and law societies from all over the world.

The IBA works to promote the exchange of information, support independence of the judiciary and lawyers, and human rights for lawyers through its headquarters in London, and two branch offices in Sao Paolo, Brazil and Dubai, Saudi Arabia.

At the event Seoul City and the IBA signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in building an information infrastructure and work more effectively in the Korean law market.
