A third British ticket-holder in just over a month has won the jackpot in Europe's biggest lottery game.

The unidentified winner matched all seven numbers to scoop 54.9 million euros ($73.8 million) on the twice-weekly EuroMillions lottery.

A couple won 54.2 million euros on February 7 and another couple won 48.9 million euros on January 20 -- both were from Nottinghamshire in central England.

The jackpot is rolled over to the next draw if no one picks all seven numbers, and since January 20 the three biggest prizes have all gone to Britons.

"The UK is clearly enjoying a run of amazing luck," said a spokeswoman for Britain's National Lottery.

"It's unbelievable that we have had a third huge EuroMillions win here in the UK.

"We have plenty of champagne on ice and look forward to welcoming the lucky ticket-holder into The National Lottery millionaires' club."

EuroMillions is a pan-European tie-up between the national lotteries of France, Britain, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland and Luxembourg.

A British couple holds the jackpot record, having won 185 million euros in July 2011, while the second and joint-third biggest wins were also claimed by Britons. (AFP)

최근 한달간 3명 당첨…역대 당첨금 1~2위도 영국인

영국인들이 유럽권 최대 규모의 로또 복권에서 최근 약 한 달간 3차례나 1등에 당첨돼 화제를 모으고 있다.

익명의 한 영국인은 최근 1주일에 두 차례 당첨자를 가리는 로또복권인 유로밀리언에서 숫자 7개를 모두 맞춰 5천490만 유로(약 830억원)의 상금을 받게 됐다.

이에 앞서 지난 7일 한 영국인 커플은 5천420만 유로(약 820억원), 또다른 영국 인 커플은 지난달 20일 4천890만 유로(약 740억원)의 1등 당첨금을 각각 받았다. 두 커플 모두 영국 중부의 노팅햄셔 출신이다.

유로밀리언 복권은 7자리 숫자를 모두 맞춘 당첨자가 없을 경우 1등 당첨 상금액이 다음 회차로 넘어간다.

지난 1월 20일 이후 3차례의 최대규모 복권 당첨금이 모두 영국인들 차지가 된 셈이다.

영국 복권 관계자는 "영국에서 3번째로 거액의 유로밀러언 당첨자를 갖게 된 것을 믿을 수 없다"면서 "영국이 어마어마한 행운을 즐기고 있는 셈"이라고 말했다.

유로밀리언 복권은 프랑스와 영국, 스페인, 아일랜드, 포르투갈, 벨기에, 스위스, 룩셈부르크, 오스트리아 등 9개국에서 판매되고 있다.

지금까지 유로밀리언 사상 최고액은 지난해 7월의 1억8천500만 유로(당시 약 2 천760억원)로 이 역시 영국인 차지였다.

또 당시 이 기록은 종전의 1억2천981만 유로(약 2천억원)를 깬 것으로 종전 기록 역시 영국에서 나왔었다.
