Prosecutors plan to question Wednesday a former aide to President Lee Myung-bak who is accused of being deeply involved in alleged vote-buying during a 2008 leadership election of the ruling party.
“We plan to summon him early Wednesday,” a prosecution official said, referring to Kim Hyo-jae who resigned Friday from the position of a senior presidential secretary on political affairs. The summons is likely
Kim, while working as a key strategist for Rep. Park Hee-tae during his campaign for the party’s chairmanship, is accused of orchestrating the bribery of party lawmakers to help his boss win the election.
The probe into the scandal has gathered pace recently after another member of Park’s camp confessed to having accepted a bribe returned by a lawmaker, Rep. Koh Seung-duk, and reported it to Kim.
Kim had reacted angrily, the former Park aide said, according to local reports.
The scandal began last month by the revelation by Rep. Koh that he received, and later returned, an envelope stuffed with 3 million won and a name card of Park shortly before the ruling party’s national convention to elect a new leader.
Park won the leadership election and ran the party chief for nearly 2 years. In October 2010, he became the Speaker of the National Assembly. The disgraced politician, however, stepped down from the post last week as the prosecutorial probe zeroes in on him.
Both Kim and Park deny any wrongdoing.
The investigators are expected to subpoena Park once they finish interrogating Kim.
The probe into alleged corruption at the very core of the conservative ruling bloc is a heavy blow to President Lee as well as the ruling camp.
The ruling Saenuri, or New Frontier Party, was known as the Grand National Party until recently, having been renamed as part of its efforts to renew its image ahead of a crucial parliamentary election in April.

檢, 김효재 前수석 15일 오전 소환
2008년 한나라당(현 새누리당) 전당대회 돈 봉투 살포에 개입한 의혹을 받는 김효재(60) 전 청와대 정무수석이 15일 검찰에 소환된다.
이 사건을 수사 중인 서울중앙지검 공안1부(이상호 부장검사)는 김 전 수석에게 15일 오전 9시30분 서초동 서울검찰청사로 출석하라고 통보했다고 12일 밝혔다. 검 찰은 김 전 수석을 '피의자성 참고인' 신분으로 조사한다고 설명했다.
김 전 수석은 이명박 대통령이 사표를 수리한지 나흘 만에 검찰에 출석하게 된 다.
검찰이 돈 봉투 살포의 '윗선'으로 지목된 김 전 수석을 조사하게 됨에 따라 의 혹의 실체가 규명될지 귀추가 주목된다.
전대 당시 박희태 후보 캠프의 상황실장이던 김 전 수석은 캠프 직원을 시켜 고 승덕 의원실에 300만원이 든 돈 봉투를 전달하게 하고, 안병용(54.구속기소) 새누리 당 서울 은평갑 당협위원장에게 당협 간부들에게 뿌릴 2천만원을 구의원들에게 건네 도록 하는 지시 라인에 있었던 것으로 의심받고 있다.
검찰은 김 전 수석을 상대로 전대 당시 돈 봉투 살포를 직접 지시했거나 관여한 사실이 있는지 캐묻는 한편 수사가 시작된 이후 범행을 은폐하기 위해 부하직원들에 게 검찰에서 허위진술을 할 것을 강요했는지도 추궁할 방침이다.
앞서 고승덕 의원은 박 후보 캠프로부터 받은 300만원을 돌려줬을 때 김 전 수 석이 전화를 걸어와 "왜 돌려주는 것이냐"고 물었다고 검찰에서 진술했다.
박 의장 전 비서 고명진(40)씨는 검찰 조사에서 "고 의원실에 돈 봉투를 돌린 사람은 캠프 전략기획팀에서 일하던 K씨이며, 고 의원실로부터 돈 봉투를 되돌려받 은 사실을 김 전 수석에게 보고하자 '그걸 돌려받으면 어떡하느냐'고 화를 내더라"
고 진술한 것으로 알려졌다.
러시아에 체류 중인 K씨는 최근 검찰의 전화조사에서 "잘 기억나진 않지만 내가 (돈 봉투를 돌린 사람이) 아니라고 확신할 수 없다"고 진술한 것으로 전해졌다.
또 안 위원장이 현금 2천만원을 가져온 장소가 여의도 대하빌딩 캠프 사무실의 김 전 수석 책상이었다는 구의원의 진술도 나왔다. 여기다 김 전 수석의 전 보좌관 이 다른 의원실에 돈 봉투 심부름을 했다는 증언까지 나온 상태다.
검찰은 김 전 수석이 돈 봉투 살포에 깊숙이 관여한 정황과 진술을 이미 상당 부분 확보한 만큼 사법처리가 어렵지 않을 것으로 보고 있다.
검찰은 김 전 수석에 대한 조사 결과를 토대로 조만간 박희태 국회의장에 대한 소환 시기를 조율할 계획이다.
검찰은 애초 공개됐던 내용과 달리 라미드그룹이 박 의장 측에 수임료 2억원을 전달했고, 캠프의 금고지기 역할을 한 조정만(51.1급) 국회의장 정책수석비서관이 수표로 받은 수임료 일부를 전대 직전 현금화했고 나머지는 용처가 불분명한 만큼 이에 대해 박 의장을 상대로 한 조사도 불가피한 것으로 판단하고 있다.
검찰은 박 의장에 대한 조사까지 마친 뒤 김 전 수석, 조 수석비서관 등 관련자 들에 대한 사법처리 수위를 결정할 방침이다.
