Government invites foreign scientists

The Education and Science Ministry announced Wednesday they are inviting foreign scientists to take part in the research projects of local colleges, research centers and companies.

The annual invitation program is offers them a chance to join local research projects. Foreign scientists and Korean scientists working overseas who have more than five years of experience or outstanding achievements are eligible to apply.

The fields open for application are pure science, mechanical engineering, materials engineering, aeronautical science, electrical and electronic engineering, information and telecommunication, chemical engineering, life sciences, resources, marine and environmental science and energy.

Among local research institutes are state-funded research centers, colleges and non-profit institutions. They can select candidates based on their own criteria. Interested foreign and overseas Korean scientists can apply for the program online at www.brainpool.or.kr from Thursday to Feb. 10.

Invited scientists will receive research fund as well as airline tickets, accommodation, insurance during their stay from three months to a year. They can extend their stay within budget.
