SEOUL, Dec. 8 (Yonhap) -- Prosecutors said Thursday they have applied for an arrest warrant for a private practice lawyer suspected of bribing a prosecutor in return for her influence.
Busan prosecutors, who are handling the case, said they requested the local court there issue the warrant for the 49-year-old prosecutor-turned-lawyer surnamed Choi.
The lawyer, formerly a mid-rank prosecutor, is accused of providing a Mercedes-Benz sedan and an expensive Chanel handbag as bribes to the 36-year-old prosecutor late last year. The prosecutor resigned from her post last month amid the scandal.
Prosecutors also secured a court-issued arrest warrant for the woman on Wednesday, accusing her of pressing a fellow prosecutor to advance a criminal case in favor of Choi, purportedly in exchange for the lavish gifts.
Choi is also facing suspicions of falsely accusing a 40-year-old woman and illegally locking her up.
The woman was reportedly in a love triangle with Choi and the former prosecutor before petitioning for an investigation into the case.
The scandal involving a then-incumbent prosecutor stirred public anger as it was reported that the prosecution had overlooked repeated petitions by the woman calling for an investigation into corruption by one of its own.
As part of efforts to assuage such criticism, the prosecution launched an independent team of prosecutors and inspectors, promising to get to the bottom of the allegations.

'벤츠女검사' 변호사 사전구속영장청구
'벤츠 여검사' 사건의 핵심 인물인 부장판사 출신 최모(49) 변호사에 대해 검찰이 사전구속영장을 청구했다.
이창재 특임검사팀은 지난 7일 최 변호사에 대해 변호사법 위반, 무고, 감금치상 등의 혐의로 사전구속영장을 청구했다고 8일 밝혔다.
최 변호사는 사건 의뢰인 이모(40·여)씨에게 "사건을 잘 처리하기 위해서는 검사장급 인사 2명에게 로비를 해야 한다"며 1천만원짜리 수표 등을 받은 혐의를 받고 있다.
최 변호사는 또 자신의 아파트 전세금 2억원을 빼돌렸다며 이씨를 무고하고, 이씨를 차안에 감금한 채 폭행한 혐의를 받는 것으로 알려졌다.
이씨는 최 변호사와 부적절한 관계를 유지하다가 돈 문제 등으로 틀어져 '벤츠 여검사' 사건을 진정한 인물이다.
검찰은 이에 앞서 지난 7일 최 변호사와 이씨를 대질신문한 것으로 전해졌다.
사전구속영장이 청구되면 통상 이틀 뒤에 구속전 피의자심문(영장실질심사)이 이뤄지는 점을 감안할 때 실질심사는 빠르면 9일, 늦으면 주말을 넘겨 12일쯤 이뤄질 것으로 보인다.
최씨에 대한 구인장은 빠르면 8일 오후 발부될 전망이다.
특임검사팀은 또 이씨가 절도와 공갈·협박 혐의 등으로 피소됐다가 잇따라 무혐의 처분을 받고 이씨 고소인들이 되레 무고 혐의로 조사를 받거나 기소되는 등 이씨에 대한 비호의혹이 제기되자 사실확인에 착수했다.
검찰은 이씨 사건을 맡은 최 변호사의 역할에 주목하는 한편 담당 검사를 상대로 사건처리에 문제가 없었는지 조사중인 것으로 알려졌다.
특임검사팀은 또 "이씨가 최 변호사에게 뇌물수수 사건으로 실형을 선고받은 전경찰 고위간부의 구명을 부탁하자 최 변호사가 '경찰 최고층에 로비하겠다'며 1억원을 요구해 5천만원을 건넸다"는 말을 이씨로부터 들었다는 김모(56·여)씨를 참고인 자격으로 2차례 불러 조사한 것으로 확인됐다.
검찰은 또 김씨를 상대로 전 경찰 고위간부와 친밀한 관계인 이씨가 비자금을 관리했는지, 자금세탁은 어떻게 했는지 캐물었던 것으로 알려졌다.
김씨는 이 자리에서 "이씨가 지난해 12월4일 1억원짜리 수표를 보여주며 나의 오빠 통장에 넣어주면 안되겠느냐며 자금세탁을 시도했다"고 진술한 것으로 전해졌 다.
