Three English villages in Seoul ― the Pungnap, Suyu and Gwanak campuses ― will offer a variety of English camps to elementary and middle school students during the winter break, with different levels and purposes of English study.

A total of 18 programs at three campuses will be available to 4,010 students from Dec. 23 to Feb. 4 next year, city officials said.

Named “Smart up immersion camp,” the Pungnap campus program features some customized curricula in relation to subjects like math and science for students who wish to improve their English skills and a writing course taught by a Junior Herald reporter.

The Suyu campus program “Dream Up” will focus on not only improving language skills, but also building up knowledge about different fields. The program is task-based, and designed for students to acquire in-depth knowledge through such classes as “Save the Earth.”

The Gwanak campus will run a reading class named “Reading Magic” and teach a variety of culture and communication skills from books.

The Seoul city government will cover the full fees for about 2,000 underprivileged children in third to sixth grade, according to officials.

They can apply for the programs at the Seoul English Village website (www.sev.go.kr) by Dec. 9.
