Kids to draw on Southeast Asia

Nov. 27, 2011 - 16:52 By Korea Herald

A children’s drawing contest is to give Korean elementary school students the chance to depict their favorite place in Southeast Asia.

The “My Friend ASEAN” competition aims to raise awareness of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and to promote global citizenship among the younger generation. The ASEAN-Korea Centre will take entries from Dec. 1-23.

Certificates and prizes will be awarded to 70 winners and their artwork will be exhibited at the ASEAN Hall in the Seoul Press Center Building in January and February.

The ASEAN-Korea Centre has also hosted a school tour program and an ASEAN kids’ class to teach Korean elementary school students about Southeast Asian countries.

The organization’s secretary general, Cho Young-jai, also recently published a Korean translated version of the 2nd edition of the “Know Your ASEAN.”

The book contains basic information about ASEAN’s work and will be distributed to relevant organizations and public libraries in Korea.
