Incheon International Airport Corp. said Thursday it has been honored as one of the world’s best airports for its superior services by the Airports Council International, a global association of airports.

In the new “Roll of Excellence” program, the council listed airports that have made if into the top five in terms of service quality for five consecutive years and lauded Incheon, the sole Asian airport operator that has reigned as the best airport for six years in a row to 2010.

Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok Airport was also named the top airport by size with more than 40 million passengers, the council noted.

“The program has effectively demonstrated the value of quality customer service at our airports worldwide,” said Max Moore-Wilton, chair of the ACI board based in Montreal, Canada.

In addition, Lee Chae-wook, chief executive of the IIAC, became the latest member of the association’s world annual general assembly, the state-run firm said. He will serve the 29-member congregation for three years starting Jan. 1.

The latest announcements come from this year’s assembly in Morocco on Tuesday, where Lee confirmed the IIAC’s host of the meeting in 2014.

He also inked an agreement with the Moroccan airport authorities to cooperate on training programs, the IIAC added.

Serving the airport since 2008, Lee was reappointed in September by President Lee Myung-bak for another one-year term.
