KCT starts cheaper mobile services

Oct. 31, 2011 - 20:18 By Korea Herald
Korea Cable Telecom, a mobile virtual network operator, said Monday that it has launched cheaper telecom services based on a deferred payment system starting Tuesday.

Under the first deferred-payment MVNO system, consumers can use mobile services, including wireless data or multimedia messaging services, at prices 23-56 percent cheaper, the company said.

There is no membership fee or contract period as well, it added.

For the services, the company has reached a partnership with SK Telecom, a leading mobile network operator, to be provided with needed infrastructure at wholesale prices.

“Unlike other MVNOs, KCT is well-equipped with its own infrastructure and services. Consumers would benefit from its cheaper but quality services,” said a SK Telecom official.

Aimed at supporting smaller businesses and expanding consumer choices, the Korea Communication Commission has encouraged the partnership with MVNOs among top three telecom services providers ― SK Telecom, KT Corp. and LG Uplus.
