GIC offers cycling tour of Gwangju

Oct. 11, 2011 - 17:53 By
Gwangju International Center is offering a cycling tour hosted by a foreign guide on Oct. 23.

The tour will take in Daein Market, the Curtis Memorial Hall, Woo Il Seon’s house and a missionary grave site before travelling back along the Gwangju Stream.

Daein Market is an art market in the center of town currently going through a renaissance.

The next two sites after lunch are dedicated to two local figures ― Eugene Bell and Woo Il Seon. Eugene Bell was a minister who set up a girls’ school in the area, while Woo Il Seon was a director of Jejung hospital.

The burial area for missionaries has the graves of some of the missionaries who helped people with Hansen’s disease.

The cycling tour runs from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and costs 20,000 won for GIC members and 30,000 won for non members. The price includes lunch and drinks and the deadline for signing up is Oct. 20

Participants should bring their own bikes, or borrow one for 5,000 won.
