The second exhibition hall of the Korea International Exhibition Center, or KINTEX, in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province opened Wednesday.
Minister of Knowledge Economy Choi Joong-kyung attended the opening ceremony, which doubled as the opening event of an industrial exhibition that combines six events.
With the addition of the new hall, the KINTEX now has exhibition floor space of 108,000 square meters, making it the fifth largest facility of its kind in Asia.
According to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, which footed a third of the 359.1 billion won ($304.9 million) construction cost, the KINTEX is now three times larger than the COEX exhibition center in Seoul, and 27,000 square meters larger than Japan’s largest exhibition facility.
The ministry added that the facility’s expanded floor space would allow the Seoul Motor Show and other major events to expand, and allow Korea to host more major international events.
