Police are investigating the death of a divorced couple, saying the couple’s 32-year-old daughter is a suspect.

According to Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul, the father, surnamed Chang, first fell from his daughter’s apartment in Goyang city of Gyeonggi Province on Feb 26. Seven months later, his wife, surnamed Park, died of smoke inhalation during a fire at her home in Seoul. The cause of the fire is unknown.

At first the police were not able to find any evidence of murder, and thought the cases were accidental deaths.

However, police started to suspect their daughter because she was there at the scene of both accidents. The beneficiary of both Chang and Park’s insurance had been changed to their daughter just before they died.

Police are hunting for the daughter, and have already issued an warrant for her arrest.

“The daughter was brought up at her cousin’s house since her parents’ divorce. She seldom visited her parents as she prepared her marriage. She turns out to have a big debt problem due to losses from stock investments, but we have not yet obtained conclusive evidence of her guilt,” officials said.

이혼 50대 부부 의문의 사고사.. 용의자는 딸

(서울=연합뉴스) 김계연 기자 = 이혼한 50대 부부가 석연치 않은 이유로 잇따라 숨져 경찰이 수사에 나섰다.

경찰은 이들이 숨진 직후 종적을 감춘 딸을 유력한 용의자로 보고 행방을 쫓고 있다.

24일 서울 서대문경찰서에 따르면 2월26일 오전 2시께 경기 고양시 장모(32.여) 씨의 아파트에서 장씨의 아버지(57)가 떨어져 숨졌다.

앞서 지난해 9월14일에는 강북구 수유동에 있는 어머니 박모(52)씨의 집에서 원 인을 알 수 없는 불이 나 박씨가 연기에 질식해 숨진 채 발견됐다.

경찰은 이들이 사망할 당시 별다른 타살 혐의점을 발견하지 못해 단순 사고사로 추정했었다.

그러나 경찰은 박씨가 숨질 때도 딸이 집에 함께 있었고 사망보험금을 받아간 점, 아버지의 보험 수익자가 사망 전 딸로 변경된 점 등을 수상히 여겨 재수사를 시 작했다.

딸 장씨는 경찰의 출석 요구를 거부하고 잠적해 체포영장이 발부된 상태다.

경찰 관계자는 “딸 장씨는 어릴 때 부모가 이혼한 이후 친척집에서 자랐고 결혼 무렵부터 부모 집을 가끔 왕래했다. 최근 주식투자 실패로 빚이 늘어 어려운 상황에 있었지만 결정적 증거는 아직 발견하지 못했다”고 말했다.
