Social enterprise training and lecture

July 28, 2011 - 19:26 By Kirsty Taylor
A U.K. expert is to coach Korean students on social enterprise next week.

Social entrepreneur Clifford Southcombe is to visit Seoul from Aug. 1-4 to train students taking part in Social Venture Competition Asia.

A founder of his country’s social enterprise movement, Southcombe will also give a lecture at Sookmyung Women’s University on Monday.

Southcombe managed one of the U.K.’s first successful community enterprise projects in the 1980s and has since advised social entrepreneurs in Russia, Eastern Europe, Africa and Southeast Asia.

He has recently been helping to develop social entrepreneurship in China, Indonesia, Turkey, the Philippines, Nigeria, and Korea.

His trip is being hosted by British Council Korea, Social Enterprise Network, and Diageo Korea, who recently joined to co-host this year’s Social Venture Competition Asia, the regional leg of the Global Social Venture Competition for students.

Monday’s public lecture will be given from 4 - 5:30 p.m. at the Samsung Convention Centre, 2F Centennial Hall in Sookmyung Women’s University, Seoul. Admission is free of charge with simultaneous interpretation into Korean provided.
