GIC runs Gangjin festival tour

July 26, 2011 - 18:42 By Paul Kerry
Gwangju International Center is running a tour on Aug. 6 to Gangjin Celadon Festival.

The group will visit Gangjin tea gardens with its sloped plantation and stop off at Muwuisa, a temple whose main hall is listed as a national treasure.

After lunch, the tour will move on to the festival proper. Gangjin was a big ceramic-making center in the 14th century and uses the 16 traditional kilns that remain to keep the tradition alive.

At the festival, people can see how celadon is made and make their own pottery if they wish. There are also other activities, such as digging for clams.

The cost is 15,000 won including lunch. To attend, register by Aug. 4 at www.gic.or.kr.
